#nojusticenopeace Since I have kept quiet about this subject for a long time in an effort not to disturb the peace on facebook or in real life, I have been bubbling over with frustrations and now feel that is as good a time as any to speak up. What happened in Ferguson was not an isolated incident, nor is it, unfortunately, the last time an act of violent racism is going to occur at the cost of a young life. The truth is that in this country racism runs far and deep and is felt daily in the lives of people who were not born in the right zipcode or with the right skin color. If you honestly believe that racism is over in this country drive in to the nearest housing project you find and tell me the color of the majority of people you see there. Also, if you think that those people are there because of a choice to live off the government ask the residents of that community how they got there. The answer is cyclical poverty and a system that is designed to keep certain groups oppressed at the benefit of another. If you TRULY believe that African Americans, should help themselves or pick themselves up by their bootstraps I welcome you to help them in finding the proverbial bootstraps that are not only invisible but non existent. Its not liberalism its humanism, its not an educational issue or police issue its a systematic, institutional, national issue that is being passed over because it is too inconvenient to discuss and too uncomfortable to face. Because how could racism possibly exist when we have a black President? I do not speak up on behalf of this just because I am an ally, but because I am a human being and have this crazy, radical idea that all people are created equal and therefore have basic human rights. ps. On this particular subject I do not welcome a friendly debate as there is nothing friendly about this subject - if you post something racist, selfish, bigoted, or combative about #MikeBrown or any issues of inequality in this country I will happily usher you out of my life with a click of the unfriend button.
