not entirely sure where the correct place to post these questions is, but : i fully support the marking boycott, both its motivations and our lecturers right to take this type of industrial action. however im very unsure of what rights we as students have during this period, and who it is who is supposed to mediate any rights we do have. specifically, to what extent do we have the right to make appropriate decisions to prevent the marking boycott from having an adverse effect on our education and progression - for example, if we are expected to hand in a second piece of coursework, before having received marks and feedback from a first piece of coursework in the same unit, is there any recourse to refusing to hand in that second piece of work until the school has negotiated for the end of the boycott? or negotiating with our faculties to get deadlines moved up? i am impressed by the effort put into informing students of how we can best support the boycott, and explaining the underlying injustices that motivate it in detail. however, i feel left at a bit of a loss as to how the union (or anyone else) suggests that we deal with this situation as students studying towards a degree, rather than just as members of a union. in short - how does the union and/or the student body in general, intend to support the academic needs of the students during this time, in a way that does not undermine our teachers in their industrial action? answers on a postcard.
