not seen in town very often, Doug Collups family settled atop Towers Mtn shortly after the civil war. I treasure his stories about growing up on Spud Ranch, which was tragically lost during the Gladiator Fire. Doug has begun to chronicle is stories to be shared at some point, but when ya see him about town, be sure and thank him (and Tony Nelsonbluedog) for their heroic efforts to stop the Battle Flat fire back in the 60s. That fire was on the same trajectory to consume CK as the Gladiator Fire, cept instead of thousands of firefighters - two crafty locals each on D-8 dozers nearly single-handed created a fire break to save the town.
