not sure I will be going to the Homeless conference this weekend - TopicsExpress

not sure I will be going to the Homeless conference this weekend at the Laurentian University.... heard your interview this morning on CBC 1 and it seems that you are basically advocating that homelessness is not an immediate need of being sheltered for this winter.... and Im wondering if the city will take this interview as proof that the shelter is not needed right now and maybe later in the winter..... last year the shelter opened in mid Feb until end of March and by the looks of it might not be ready before mid December. The new mayor is only officially be mayor Dec 2nd and their first city hall meeting will be in a week from then..... I happy to hear that you have been able to change the course of your path and you did so before dying on the streets..... today in Sudbury the homeless must hid in the mountains or under ground where they can did up a whole in the ground for shelter and they NEED a shelter before adequate social housing can be established..... if the city was able to help the cats and dogs in the city and provide them with shelter and food surely the city can help the homeless during the winter before they to become a statistic..... the homeless are being arrested by the local police under the Mental Health Act and assessed and if they cannot take care of themselves they have sent them to Old Age homes and Extendicares to house them and these establishment dont want the homeless there they need the space and beds for seniors...... if people where given enough money to pay for their monthly rents and adequate money for their daily food needs it would give them more hope to keep on going..... but when faced with no home and no food its easier to forget their circumstances in a bottle..... the Samaritan Centre, a multi-million dollar facility was built for them in mind so they can stay, wash up eat and interact with others so they can chose another path..... but for the last 6 yrs punitive actions against them driven by the Elgin Street Mission when they call the local athorities to have them removed when they become a problem is not acceptable..... Mazie (Soup Kitchen) Pastor Bob (Elgin Street Mission) were very caring and compassionate individuals who were always there to listen and they cared about each and every person that came to the Soup Kitchen and Mission because of them many were able to change their path because these two individuals believe in them when no one else would and that made the different..... today when you go to the Elgin Street Mission its about power and punishment..... compassion and empathy is missing from the administrator.... this establishment has become a black hole where hundreds of thousands of dollars never get to the people in Sudbury but is redirected to other locations as far a Manitoulin Island and other places without the donors knowing that their valuable donations are not reach to severely in need here in Sudbury..... the most vulnerable, the poorest, the Mentally Ill, the Addicts and too many of the homeless have lost all hope because they have been barred from the Mission they can no longer go and eat breakfast or supper because the administrator unilaterally barred them for mostly petty problems...... If have myself been barred for telling and talking to others how the mission has mistreated myself, my now deceased husband and others. I have a letter showing that I was barred for gossip so I have a police officer go to the Mission and ask for a written document showing why I was barred and because I ask Pastor Rene made it officially barred for attacking Pastor Rene and the Elgin Street Mission with gossip written and signed in front of the officer who is now my witness. Rene now has to go show - up in Toronto, Human Rights Court with 3 complaints and the Elgin street mission has been served with one complaint. the homeless deserve better and we dont believe they do they who else will:(
