Weve set the radio spots to title cards below, and heres Jims story: The Levis Talking Scoreboard - yes, I played a talking scoreboard...well, more precisely, THE Talking Scoreboard. This audition came through the fine folks at Stars Agency, first with a very different spec for the character. Second time around, they were going for what aired. It was one of those times when I had recorded a few takes and it was just sitting solidly in the 2.5 range. I was trying to give it something just a little different when one of the techniques Id picked up in Thom Pintos Prototypes class popped into my brain. So, I had the character I liked best use a two word lead-in which Thom once played and it just locked right in! Which lead-in? Well, I think hell let you know if you take the class! Of course, that wouldnt have worked without the guidance and sporadic beatings from Brian Sommer and Sam on how to make real characters. Plus, this was actually the first radio ad which both of my parents heard on the air before I did - which was pretty cool! The recording was entirely remote - patched in via ISDN to another studio, who had patched in the director and client - so relying just on the voices in the headphones. They were great to work with - three quick takes on each spot and few options for tags and we were wrapped!
