now that it appears this dog will be saved, please lets NOT forget the big picture here! People were outraged with the humane officers/society/dog warden, mayor, etc. however, the sad truth is the standards of care are very, very low in Ohio (as well as many other states) there isnt much the authorities can do and animals continue to suffer and die! Heres what the law says under ORC 959.131 C2: No person shall...impound or confine the companion animal without affording it, during the impoundment or confinement...with access to shelter from heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, or excessive direct sunlight, if it can reasonably be expected that the companion animal would become sick or suffer in any other way as a result of or due to the deprivation, confinement, or impoundment or confinement in any of those specified manners. ......So under certain conditions a tree COULD be adequate shelter, if the weather is mild and the tree provides shade from excessive direct sunlight and there is no heat, cold, wind, rain or snow to consider. Most of the animal laws in Ohio were written in the 1800s/early 1900s - isnt it time to update them???? Please take a moment and write/call your Ohio House Representative and your Ohio State Senator and ask them to UPDATE THE STANDARDS OF CARE FOR COMPANION ANIMALS! HOW ABOUT A tethering LAW! (please note: there is nothing in the works at the present time to enact change for the standards of care nor Tethering not sure who your Ohio State Rep is? click on this link and type in your zip code: ohiohouse.gov/ not sure who your Ohio State Senator is? click on this link and type in your zip code: ohiosenate.gov/senate/index thank you for being a strong voice for our companion animals!!!! prayers and paws crossed for this poor dog, will continue to post updates as they become available. https://facebook/dogsdeservebetter/posts/10152693940168729
