ok echo report, he came in with an ejection fraction(shows how strong the heart is pumping normal 55 t0 60) of 20. Yesterdays echo shows an EF of 30. They are hoping that it will get up to at least 40 but wont know for about 4 to 6 weeks as that is how long it takes the heart to heal. One of the medications he is on is one that can make you very sleepy but the body tends to adjust. It slows down the blood flow so the heart does not have to work so hard. his blood pressure is low, but that is where they want it--in the 90s, again less work for the heart. the cardiac rehab nurse provided us with all this info. The hardest part for him will be the need to do some diet changes to decrease his cholesterol levels. Dr Minor said pretty much the same thing about the echo report however he added they are very encouraged that the area hit hardest by the heart attack is beginning to move again and do some pumping. He said they had hoped for it to be more so by now but that this is going to be a long process. He feels that we have a good chance of getting the EF back up to 40. I asked him about the sleeping a lot and he says right now that is good because the heart is not being stressed while he sleeps, however he would hope that within a couple of weeks that his activity level will increase. He said fine tune over the weekend, home early next week, maybe monday. All in all a very good report we think!!! Love you all and thank you so much for all the thoughts and prayers sent our way!
