ok fb family...this is a little lengthy, BUT, if you are a dog lover and a respecter of K-9 officers and the bond they form with their partners, please, please take the time to read this... There is a K-9 attached to the Salisbury PD named Jack. Jacks partner is officer Fox. Sorry I dont know his first name. Information has been sketchy and Im sure its been spun on both sides with allegations of pettiness and politics to denials and logical explanations. That all is what it is and this isnt about that....what it is about is that Jack is 8 and has given 6 years of good and loyal service to both the PD, officer Fox and his family. Officer Fox took a position with the county and Jack is scheduled to be placed with a new handler for whatever service time he has. Anyone familiar with Malinois knows they are a fiercely loyal breed. I believe with all my heart that at 8 years old and having been with one handler all his life the psychological effects on Jack are tremendous. weve all seen the pics of the Canadian officers dog grieving. Weve all seen this played out in photo after photo, incident after incident. I would like to implore Chief Collins to consider retiring Jack to officer Fox. Its very simply the RIGHT thing to do. I fully expect to see some response about Jacks monetary value over the next 2 years, IF he stays in service til the age of 10....and thats a logical, financial argument ...but we are talking about whats right, moral and ethical for a veteran police K-9 and his handler. My goodness, the county vested my retirement and said my service to them was worth something after only 5yrs....surely after 6yrs of a dogs life and and 8yrs old Jack has garnered at least that much consideration....but if the city of Salisbury needs financial compensation for retiring Jack early, I would be willing to contribute to a fund to make it happen....How about you guys??? Im asking you all to repost this and see if there is any groundswell to make it happen....And i ask all of you who may comment to be respectful. THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO GRIND AXES OR SLING MUD!!! Lets just focus on the feasibility of getting Jack retired and with his faithful partner.... VERY respectfully Eddie Stone
