ok finally made it back to the hotel. the match was actually over when Germany scored the first goal. the last time they gave a lead up to lose was 1994 vs bulgaria in the usa. and i think the time before that was 1954. anyways the real story actually isnt the brazilian defeat (which was actually expected- ESPECIALLY after they lost their best forward and defender in the lead up) but was the crowd. UNSPORTSMANLIKE to the extreme. The standing ovation that came for the Germans late in the second half came after MANY fights we saw in which Germans were pushed, beer was thrown on them, and they were harassed to no end. There was no provocation, and there were ppl roaming the stadium looking for proper trouble. The majority of the German crowd (the official supporters) had to be held back, and many were changing shirts. I eventually decided to cover up Sulaiman Butt as he was wearing Germany colors, as the situation got worse. When you are the host, you have to manage guests-- not push them and threaten them. Obviously booze was involved... but I was there when the USA lost to Brazil in 94, when South Korea lost to Germany in 2002, when Germany lost to Italy in 2006- and all those times the hosts were devastated but didnt forget basic sportmanship... So many myths busted 1) Brazil plays the best football- NOPE. They are a bad version of European efficiency 2) Brazil are the best footballing nation in the world cup - It was Germany even before today. 3) Brazil never hack and foul- ask James Rodriguez 4) Brazilian women are the most beautiful- yes they are a lot running around in skimpy bikinis but not all are good sights! 5) Brazil has beautiful beaches- Copacabana might be dirtier than Clifton. 6) Brazilians are hospitable ppl- theres a lot of tension here due to the world cup and they seem to not want to be hosting it but dont mind the refs shading it vs colombia for them due to that. 7) Brazilians are happy ppl- way too many social issues here. Nevertheless- I LOVE THE WORLD CUP EXPERIENCE and MATCHES today was AN INCREDIBLE MATCH among others. There are very friendly ppl here and its a country with a lot of potential, but some of the venues have been beyond badly chosen. like Recife and Manaus and those ppl need so many other things than a modern state of the art football stadium.South Africa raised the bar and the ppl there were more loving. We didnt see any rioting but it WAS sketchy tonight...
