ok i feel the need to share my opinion on this paula deen situation... and honestly if anyone is offended by this post, then you are truly not understanding what i am saying. the word that she admitted using, is a disgusting term. there are many out there used for different races, religions, orientations, etc. these words are hurtful, ignorant, and basically are just wrong. however, i think a lot of us forget that segregation ended in 1964.( well kinda ended, we dont need to get into the mississippi thing again tonight) thats right 1964, 49 year ago... not 100, not 150, not 200...but 49 years ago. there are many many people alive today who were raised, taught, and even encouraged to hate blacks. so to think that those toxic words are not in use today, is completely ridiculous. they are used, and they are still nasty words, but can we really whole heartedly blame ppl who were conditioned to think and feel that way. paula admitted that she used those words 30 years ago. again still wrong but paul deen is 66 years old. her entire childhood was spent in a country where segregation was law. now do i think she prob has said the word more recently...yes... but do i think she is racist and hates black people...no. i think if she had been quoted or heard saying things like "i hate blacks" or "i dont want black people to use my recipes" then all the firing, and dropping would be very much fair. but dont you think all of this has been a lot of overkill. in fact to me it almost feels, like these companies are actually using her to get publicity and sales. its absolutely appalling. i do think that there is a huge lesson to be learned here. we have to teach our children to love one another. yes there are always going to be bad apples that can spoil the bunch, but we are all humans, with a beating heart and emotions. that doesnt change based on what you look like, what your faith is, who you want to marry...none of that matters. if we dont stop all this hate, what kind of world are we leaving to our posterity? just take a second to think, before you react... because there are ppl out there betting that you wont.
