ok, so we jump in the car and head for one of our favorite italian restaurants. then take candi to her boyfriends house. so we leave there and not knowing what we, my wife and I, are going to do for the rest of the evening decide on the spur of the moment to go to the beach. little did we know what was in store for us. we just drive. what ever beach we end up at, thats it. so we walk out onto the beach and walk to the pier, which reaches a 1/4 of a mile out into the ocean. walking by a 100 people fishing we go all the way out to the end of the pier. 3 men have their poles with lines in the water fishing. so we take up residence at one end and just stand there gazing out into the ocean. quiet reigns for about 20 minutes. nobody is getting a bite and nothing exciting is happening on the oceans horizon. then suddenly 100 yards from the pier a dolphin jumps up and out of the water and falls freely back in nose first. then another and then another. then 4 more do the same thing. we watch in wonder and amazement as this all goes on before our very eyes. then we notice that they are headed straight for us. we keep watching and determine that there must be about a hundred of them. as they approach us they keep cresting the oceans surface as they go. several minutes go by as they leisurely pass by us just 25 yards from the pier. then, without warning, one of the men gets a bite and begins to reel his catch in . excitement heightens as we all begin to wonder and discuss what might be on the hook, as the catch is putting up much of a fight to be reeled in. suddenly the fish jumps out of the water shacking violently trying to break loose. its a barracuda, about 3 feet long. then, again without warning, another pole gets hit with a bite and the fish is pulling the whole rod over the railing of the pier deck. the guy that owns the rod is busy with another of his rods and is too far away to get to it ,so jessica, my wife , runs to it and grabs it just as its about to go over the edge and fall the 50 feet into the ocean below. the guy yells, Pull on it !!! jessica pulls with all shes got. but, unfortunately, the fish gets away with the bait. meanwhile, the guy with the barracuda on his line continues to try to real in his catch. this fish is extremely strong, and putting up a tremendous fight. then, again without warning , a 4 foot shark shows up. circling the barracuda, trying to catch and eat. and then, wouldnt you know it, all gets lost in the fight and excitement. and we are left with nothing. all is lost, all escapes into the oceans vastness. so all pull in their lines and put fresh bait on their hooks. they cast. the scene is reset for a new set of circumstances. it dont take long. in swoops a seagull. grabs the one fishermans line at waters surface and pulls the fishermans bait up and out of the water then proceeds to steal his bait right off of his line before his very eyes. an evening to remember ! :-)
