okay.... I found this Interview with Marco Hietala yesterday on DragonWhite and I wanted to post it ASAP but this baby took me quite a while to translate. But I managed and here it is... enjoy ~L~ The metal-version of Sylvian Joululaulu makes people cry We all have mindless nostalgic Christmas Song pressure from childhood Christmases – some worse some better - but with the added emotional charge in any case unique, knows Marco Hietala. The bassist and singer of Nightwish and other familiar bands will accompany the Raskasta Joulua Tour for the 9th time this year This time the Tour includes the Christmas Carols of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission. Producer Erkka Korhonen founded the Raskasta Joulua Project that provides symphonic rock and metal versions of traditional and well known Christmas songs. Bombastic and worth repeating This year the tour of more than 20 concerts is staged and produced specifically for concert halls. Marco Hietala is also involved with many other Finnish metal music top names. - Metal is bombastic, presenting traditional Finnish Christmas carols in minor keys than the originals. The result is a flamboyant and a big feel-good show, Hietala says. In Hietalas opinion the feedback has mostly been good. - Of course there are some people who feel that our songs have been torn to pieces and assembled wrong but yes, they have also brought many good views. For example Sylvian Joululaulu, its about homesickness in another country – When you see people getting tears in their eyes during that song it is definitely very cleansing and emotionally charged. What then, in Marcos opinion, is the most beautiful Christmas song? Oh, oh, thats bad! Sylvian Joululaulu , of course, is good, Ive been singing it for some gigs. Yes I like it very much. – Varpunen jouluaamuna is good in its own archaic Finnish point of view. That, too, is a kind of grim, but I like that minor key, heavy stuff. - I like Pieni Rumpali and Me Käymme Joulun Viettohon, they are good, major-based versions for the gigs. The world doesnt distribute things equally Marco Hietala himself says he likes to spend traditional family Christmases. The most important thing are my Children and their Joy. If I get Cellphone messages on Christmas I do not respond to them. I stick much with the family, just as my parents did when I was a child, and focus on being calm. This Christmas the Raskasta Joulua Tour also presents Carols of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission to help a campaign that raises funds in favor of children with disabilities in developing countries. To Marco this is a really good donation target Ive seen a lot while traveling around the world. The world is a place where things are not distributed evenly. If this Co-operation convinces people who have more to give even a little bit that is a great thing, Marco thinks. To the Churches who sing Kauneimmat joululaulut Marco says: - Sing on, they are great songs! Christmas Carols and Raskasta Joulua Co-operation It is impressive to meet people who tell you how the Raskasta Joulua concert is their most important Christmas tradition and how it has brought Christmas back to their lives. Thus says the producer Erkka Korhonen, who got the idea of Raskasta Joulua, Christmas 2003, after receiving a gift with hard rock versions of Christmas Carols. Korhonen got the Idea that some of the wonderful traditional Finnish Christmas songs could use the same treatment. This project shows what great and varied compositions, many Christmas songs are. They bend very naturally into heavy rock without losing their deepest essence. The Raskasta Joulua Project provides symphonic rock and metal versions of traditional and well known Christmas songs. The Raskasta Joulua Tour starts (started) in mid November for the 9th time. In early November, was also released the third Raskasta Joulua album. Raskasta Joulua has also shot a music video, which involved a total of 16 artists. The videotaped song is Pekka Simojokis Tulkoon Joulu. The video can be viewed on the Raskasta Joulua website. Kauneimmat joululaulut is the singing event the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission initiated 40 years ago with some community churches where they come together between 1. Advent and the Epiphany time to sing their favorite Christmas songs. Suomen Lähetysseuran has printed flyers for the singing events and collect money for their work in foreign countries. Raskasta Joulua added the songs of Kauneimmat joululaulut to their collection and presents them in a slightly darker mood for the audience to enjoy and to do good. The tour will stop on 30.11. at Madetoja Hall in Oulu. Interpretations will be given by Marco Hietala of Nightwish, Sonata Arcticas Tony Kakko, Charons JP Leppäluoto and Thunder Stones Pasi Rantanen. rauhantervehdys.fi/cgi-bin/linnea.pl?document=00011141
