okay dear freinds i have an update. our first actual big organized storm of the year will hit us on sunday and monday. actually it may rain as early as saturday night. heres whats interesting. this is our first atmospheric river event for this rainy season. we will see september rainfall records broken. by the time this september ends, when we take this upcoming storm and add it to the rainy weather of the last 7 to 10 days, this will go down as the wettest september in eureka and humboldt that weve seen in a long time. its a little strange having an atmospheric river event hit this early. so right now in the gulf of alaska is a large storm forming. places to our north like brookings, eugene portland oregon and further north will see more rain then we will, because there closer to the main storm. However the large subtropical moisture plume thats barreling towards the coast will slide south and hit us hard. no mainstem river flooding will happen because theres no mountain snow to be melted and rivers are low. this storm will give our rivers a nice fall depth and help to get rid of the algae. A strong cold front and the moisture plume will give us at least 2 to 4 inches of rain on sunday and monday. whats cool guys is the fact that remnants of super typhoon pabuk are infused into the moisture plume so thats why theres a nice big strong storm that will hit the northwest. we will have wind, 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts. places right on the coast and in the mountains could get gusts up to 50 mph. also when we get hit by large moisture plumes that come from former large typhoons, rainfall totals can be underdone. so dont be surprised if a place like fortuna which is forecast to get 2 inches of rain actually gets 4. look for a soaking september and a bad miserable rainy day on sunday and at least part of monday.
