on 23 October 2014 NTACU arrested a National Traffic Police officer for corruption and extortion. The arrest stemmed from a public complaint received via the RTMC call center( 0861 400 800) . It is alleged that the officer stopped a heavy goods vehicle that was unroadworthy and demanded money from the operator for its release. There is sufficient evidence that a sum of R300 was paid via electronic transfer into the officers personal bank account. The officer was arrested under CAS 677/10/2014 at Temba SAPS. The officer will appear in court today (Friday) 24 October 2014.
