once again the labour party are mailing me (response below) Stephen, Witnessing the debate in Scotland over the last few weeks, I found the passion and conviction with which Labour campaigners and politicians fought for our partys values so inspiring. It made me reflect on what first drove me to get involved in Labour politics, back in the early 1990s. Margaret Thatcher was still in Number 10, and there was a sharp divide between the haves and have-nots. I was one of the have-nots. There wasnt much to go around, but my dad made sure I was surrounded by books — and because of him I got into college. It was there just before the 1992 election that I decided to become a Labour member. I wanted a government with a different set of priorities — a government that would be on the side of the people I knew, the people on my street. And above all, I joined the Labour Party because I wanted Britain to be a fairer place. Thats my Labour story — and Id love to hear yours. So, Stephen: why did you join Labour? Share your story Thank you — Im looking forward to reading your stories. Best, Gloria Gloria De Piero Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities Gloria, I understand that you have only gotten your position to make up the numbers as it looks good to place women. i think thats a pity as there are many good (politically educated woman) in politics who are capable or leading and inspiring people in politics, pity they are not allowed to develop in the labour party, unless they conform. I consider your waffle about equality a load of clap-trap, with no resemblance to the truth what so ever. My Scotland story, involves encouraging people to sub-navigate the lies told by your party members and your friends in the conservatives, the fib dems, UKIP, the BNP, the EDL, the bankers (who caused the financial crash) and the CBI. You make a great play on you being a woman, thus you might be interested to lean that a party in Scotland is about to get as leader a woman, who inspires, leading from the front and holds a deep political belief (something amiss in the labour party), Nicola Sturgeon. best regards Steve
