one thing I never want to be distracted from--my time alone with God. It is in our alone time with God that we should focus with full attention. In those times God gives direction, peace, clarity, and refuels us with the Holy Spirit before we go about our day. I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to miss my time. Another person who couldn’t miss this time was Jesus. Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place where He prayed (Mark 1:35). Note He went to a quiet place where Jesus knew He could be alone with God without distractions. I truly believe we have very few places like that in our lives. There always seems to be something calling for attention. Even when we are all alone, we still have to deal with our thoughts, and be assured the enemy is at work there; attempting to distract us. This is why journaling is so vital to our quiet time. When we write, we are focused on what we are putting on paper, and have fewer opportunities to think about or focus on other things. I challenge you, if you haven’t begun to journal, to try it at least for a week and see if there is a difference. You can find a great journal outline on the CCM website with the devotions. What has the enemy been distracting you with? Work, kids, spouse, family, social outlets, the snooze button? The list could go on and on. The reality is that just as the list goes on and on, so does your time growing and maturing in the Lord. His will is that each of us is made perfect in His image. It’s hard to do when we are doing nothing that reflects or focuses on Him. I encourage you to take an additional few minutes in your quiet time right now to get real with God, and ask Him to help you identify your distractions. I am sure He would love to share a few with you. Then write it down in the journal you started. At the end of the week, reflect and look back. My hope is that God did such a work in you that you will easily be able to finish the phrase “Easily Distrac.” Read: Nehemiah 6:1-14
