oris Blank was born on this day in 1953. Boris was the musical part of the Swiss duo Yello. Between 1980 and 2009 Yello released a dozen albums. Famed for the song “Oh Yeah” from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Yello’s electronic sense was supreme in Europe, they almost deserve their own genre!! Their 1983 album You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess for mine rates as one of the 80’s best albums. It is a seminal electronic album that no-one should be without. The musical fusions on here are mind boggling - spaghetti western electro? Its incredibly funky and erotic. This album, listened to in its entirety, its FANTASTIC! The music hasn’t dated after 30 years!! There are, after all, some absolute classics here, Lost Again has a real emotional quality that many songs are lacking. The crunchy vocals compliment the lyrics and guitars. Crash Dance is short and sweet, with the basic layout of a techno track. Great Mission and You Gotta Say Yes... are pretty bizarre, but thats part of Yellos charm, and its all good fun. My favourite, Swing, smooth and jazzy, never fails to make my foot tap, and Salut Mayomba is a haunting latin-influenced piece of class. Holy as Swiss cheese. 10/10 https://youtube/watch?v=S0lCJJJQTIw
