He practically wrote the book on film storytelling when he made Citizen Kane, actually inventing equipment and developing cinematic techniques that are still being used today. This great work of art led to the destruction of his career because it angered William Randolph Hurst (a massively rich and powerful corrupt media lord of that day who the protagonist of CK was based on) which led Hurst to begin an anti-Welles war that alienated Welles from the movie industry.
