PW: Why am I not surprised that Former President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla did not follow through on her boast to actually do something for conservation in Costa Rica? Some shark group in Germany gave her an award for shark conservation. The group claims to be doing more for sharks than any other organization. Chinchilla used that bogus award to pretend she was a saviour of sharks as she ignored the incredible massacre of sharks in her home waters. The BS that gets tossed around by NGOs and politicians is astounding. Anyhow..... From Sierra Goodman: Many of you will remember my JOY about a month ago when a new law was signed here in Costa Rica to keep the tuna boats out more than 60 miles from the coast, which would save 1000s of dolphins yearly. This was a last ditch effort by outgoing President Chinchilla to fix her very tarnished conservation reputation. But it seems that the law never got published by her administration, she left that for the new administration whom is being pressured by the tuna industry to not publish. So basically, this new law that so many were thrilled about, means NOTHING at the moment. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! If you havent already, please take a moment to sign our Petition to create a Marine Protected Area off the coast of the Osa Peninsula that will protect this area once and for all from the short sighted folks who just want to keep fishing and fishing until there is nothing left.
