playing war games occupied most of my time on Okinawa...but there were times we served as riot control, when the locals were hostile and protested the US presence in their country. One night as the radio operator for my unit, I became separated and alone... I decided to return to our camp site....I sat down to rest ...when I continued walking, I could hear someone stalking me. Armed with a 45 pistol but no ammo, I became concerned the hostile locals were about to test my Marine training...I would take a few steps and stop....then I could hear them take a few steps and stop....I did have a large hunting knife and was removing it from the scabbard, when I noticed my radios handset had fallen from the radio and its coiled wire was stretching out for 7 or 8 feet behind me and then slithering back up .....yep...I was being stalked by my own handset....I stabbed it to death!! Big dumb Jarhead!!
