please watch the video on how the ALS bucket challenge started. I know there are people against the challenge and there will always be naysayers. However if one moment brings awareness to others then it is totally worth it. I personally know 2 families who lost someone they love to this terrible disease. I honestly new about ALS before but never knew how those with the disease suffered. I never fully understood it. Within the last year I watched as 2 people I care about lose their mothers to ALS. The familes lost a mother, a grandma, a sister, an aunt, a cousin and a friend. The people who have ALS become trapped in their bodies unable to to move, talk, eat or breath. They are completely aware of what is going on around them but they can not do anything about it and their death is usually suffocation. How heartbreaking and terrifying is that!?!? So if those who could not afford to donate shared a video and brought awareness to someone else who may be able to donate or awareness to someone who could donate, or someone who may be suffering symptoms and it brings them a step closer to finding out what is wrong then this silly challenge that many are complaining about did the job that it was intended to do. I know it says to donate $100 but if you can not do that then its fine. The whole point was to bring awareness. There are walks, ribbons, softball games (like ms slugfest for Ms awareness that mike and I have played for), polar plunge for special olmpics, and many other activities for many diseases or disabilities to bring donations or awareness. That is what the ice bucket challenge is just a different approach. Mike and I donate to many causes that are special to us. We may not always have the money but we try in the hopes that one day they will find a cure or someone who is sick gets the care they need. We chose to donate and dump cold water on our heads because we wanted to bring awareness and help the cause. Maybe this inspired someone to donate to another cause that is special to them. If you are upset about seeing these videos in your news feed then keep scrolling past them. I did this for the families of Carrie Messer-Hamilton and Diana Pierce whom I care about and love! I know this challenge is dear to your hearts and I am proud to say I did it! Xoxo
