poem 1652 There’s all kinds of tired. There’s physical exhaustion Which follows labor or athletic endeavor, And which contributes reasonably well to rest And sleep, as long as the pain isn’t over the Top – which it usually is after sixty. There’s intellectual or cognitive fatigue, The kind you get after racing madly to beat A deadline, staying up all night (maybe more than One), sucking down coffee like a slurping bathtub Drain, stressed to the point that mass murder seems like a Reasonable solution. But emotional Ennui is most all-consuming and destructive, The depletion of the ability to care, A man without water lost in the Sahara.
