posted on 10/11/2014 Building Surveyor (P006) City of Wagga Wagga - Wagga Wagga NSW Position Summary This position is responsible for effectively working as part of the Building and Plumbing Team to deliver high quality building assessment and certification services. Key Responsibilities 1. Conduct assessment of development applications and construction certificates. 2. Conduct inspections of residential, commercial and industrial building/premises for component compliance, safety and building certificates subject to Accreditation Level. 3. Conduct residential swimming pool compliance safety inspections in accordance with relevant legislation. 4. Undertake annual boarding house inspections to ensure legislative compliance. 5. Participate in meetings/consultations with relevant stakeholders including owners/builders; architects; engineers; and government agencies including on-site. 6. Undertake compliance and enforcement functions in relation to building and development matters that affect the Local Government Area. 7. Maintain Building and Professionals Board Accreditation and work towards achievement of A1 Level Accreditation. 8. Preparation of correspondence and general and technical reports. Position Criteria Qualifications, Certificates and Licences 1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role. 2. NSW Building Professionals Board Accreditation Level (A1 – A3) or eligibility to attain accreditation from the Building Professionals Board. 3. Eligibility to obtain membership to Australian Institute of Building Surveyors as a Building Surveyor. 4. Current Class C Driver’s Licence. 5. Current OH&S Construction Induction Certificate (White). Experience, Skills & Knowledge 6. Substantial experience relevant to the role including legislative interpretation e.g. Building Code of Australia, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act, applicable Australian Standards etc. 7. Highly developed time management, planning, administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Office. 8. Highly developed communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and negotiation skills. 9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently. 10. Demonstrated ability to deliver quality customer service, contribute to service improvements and adapt to change. 11. Demonstrated understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety requirements relevant to the role including risk assessment of activities and tasks.
