presidents get too much blame and too much credit for the performance of the economy. the president has no control over monetary policy and limited control over fiscal policy , most items in the budget can not be easily cut and are more or less set in stone. the president can affect foreign policy and domestic policies which may indirectly influence the economy but mostly its all perception and fuel for partisan hacks one way or the other.
