Also known as “Monas”, “Tugu Monas Square” or “Monumen Nasional”, the National Monument of Indonesia is one of the most visited tourist attractions across the globe. Located at the Monas Field in the central part of Merdeka Square, the monument is a major icon of Central Jakarta in Indonesia. With its beginning of construction in 1960 during the Sukarno era, the National Monument was finally established in 1961 and officially exposed for public viewing in 1975. It is considered as the most reputed structures in the city. It is a form salutation to the resistance against the foreign rulers. It is meant for crowing the efforts of the brave freedom fighters for their proclamation of independence in August 1945. The National was founded in commemoration of independence, while honoring the courage and struggle of the war heroes. The then President Sukarno had a view of erecting a tower equivalent to the Eiffel Tower. The architecture is designed by Frederich Silaban and Soedarsono. Finally, it was inaugurated on the Independence Day on 17th August, 1975 by Sukrano.
