re written abstract !! criticism please!! Social cohesion has been allocated an elevated status, portrayed as a valuable attribute of modern society, contributing to sustainable long-term economic growth, general wellbeing and health for all members (OECD, 2012). This paper offers insight into senses of cohesion and inclusion between residents over the Hawkes Bay Region; intending to uncover general attitudes and senses of belonging, equality, individual expression and tolerance of diversity between residents. Questionnaires administered to residents found the majority of respondents noted a sense of belonging to their community and to Hawkes Bay, with many noting regularly being treated as an equal and accepting other ethnicities. In spite of this, discrimination was noted as common occurrence for many respondents due to ethnicity and race. Furthermore, information contributed from local and regional authorities provides valuable insight into specific measures taken when planning, facilitating and catering projects towards cohesiveness; whilst pinpointing how these initiatives benefit the overall wellbeing and sustainability throughout the community. Societies that demonstrate high level of social cohesion offer increased levels of prosperity for individuals while giving best opportunity to strengthen long-term growth (OECD, 2012).
