Morocco: When demonstrations are ideologically-biased towards Arabs As is customary with my fellow Moroccans, whenever Israel attacks Gaza, they take into the streets, protesting against Israeli crimes in Gaza. I believe that these demonstrations are not ‘for the God‘s sake’. Stated differently, our solidarity with Palestinians is ideologically-based. I do firmly believe that Palestinian question is not our national issue number one since there has been complicated issues facing our country. Our education is at infancy, Moroccan external debt is beyond imagination, corruption tears the country, albeit we are unable to think beyond Palestinian issue. I have been wondering: Are we born with Palestinian issue fixed in our minds? Let’s be democratic in our thinking, if we are to support Palestine, we normally should make it obvious that we strongly condemn Israeli crimes against Palestinians, but donating 5 million dollars to Gaza is pointless. What I mean by this is that we don’t need to donate that bid sum to Palestine at a time when we are in a bad need to it to make improvements at home. I cannot see any reason why the Moroccan government ‘challenges’ the Gulf countries to denote 5 million dollars to Palestinians. I ‘am not against these donations, but rather against the two-faced pan-Arabists. Furthermore, these donations are ideologically-based. It is not beyond guessing. To expand on this point, the pan-Arabists, For example, turn a blind eye to the Algerian crimes against its Amazigh citizens in Gardaya. Is it not hypocritical to organize ‘mass demonstrations’ in favor of Palestinians, whereas we ignore, on purpose what takes place in Algeria right now? Are these not ideologically based demonstrations then? Why not expressing solidarity with Gardaya residents? Amazigh citizens in Gardaya have been subject to all forms of ‘ethnic cleansing’. Gardaya has been under the siege for months. The siege was led not by Israel, but by the pro-Arabist government and under the supervision of police forces!!! For a couple of months, a number of citizens have been killed and others injured. Is it not Human to condemn these racist practices? I cannot see any reason why the pan-Arabists did not speak against these crimes. Now that Israel has been attacking Gaza, pan-Arabists, Again, dressed in humanitarian clothing, have been preparing to protest against Israel in the days to come!!! The Pan-Arabists discourse is playing on the emotions of people. It is never based on humanitarian intentions as they argue. They are trying to get their like-minded to the streets; hence, serve their sacred ideology and cause Moroccans forget about their own issues. I hope I ‘am mistaken. In a nutshell, I would say that pan-Arabist discourse has lost its brightness. There is no harm in helping human beings based on humanitarian intention, but it is a grave fault if we help Palestinians only because they are Arabs.
