reading the book... Sabbath Keeping, lynne m. baab Why do we need to justify our existence by constant motion? SABBATH: * weekly day of rest & worship. *teaches us grace *gives us time to recharge the human batteries *a day to forget about what we dont have & what we need to do & simply enjoy what is. Only in stopping, really stopping, do we teach our hearts & souls that we are loved, truly loved, apart from what we do *invites us into a rhythm , a structure, that frees us from outside pressures *gives us time to reflect *helps us remember that God is the one in charge of keeping the world turning and not me *is to celebrate time rather tan space. Six days a week we live under the tyranny of things of space; on the Sabbath we try to become attuned to holiness in time. -Abraham Heschel *gain a better ability to decide between needs & callings *to stop and be dependent on God & trust God to provide vs working 7 days and depending on self Violating Sabbath is like throwing your wedding ring in the face of your spouse or burning your national flag. *when keeping the day holy, we are practicing, for a day, the freedom that God intends for all people. *a day for people to return to the Joy of the world as God created it *the sabbath is to be gift, not something to which we slavishly conform. * the Sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath...... enjoy the Sabbath - today slow down, do little, be loved and love, relax, thank God for all +++ happy day!
