redbookchannel Two Naga youths racially abused, beaten in Gurgaon GURGAON: Two BPO employees from Nagaland working in Cyber City were racially abused and viciously thrashed by a group of residents in Gurgaon late on Wednesday, the latest in a series of hate crimes against people from the northeast in cosmopolitan Indian cities. The attack, with cricket bats and hockey sticks, left Awang Neomi, 22, and Aloto Chisi, 25, with severe injuries and concussions, but the assailants didnt stop there. They humiliated the two by shearing Awangs hair before letting him and Aloto off with a warning: Well stop here so that you can tell other people from the northeast living here to leave immediately. Roughly 100 people from northeastern states live in Sikanderpur Ghosi village, where the attack took place, barely 1km from the corporate hub of Cyber City. The police on Thursday slapped attempt to murder charges against seven people but made no arrests. Barely a day ago, a Manipuri boy was beaten up and forced to speak in Kannada in Bangalore, reflecting deep-rooted regional biases across Indian cities. Awang and Aloto were rushed by friends and relatives to Civil Hospital in Gurgaon on Wednesday night with head injuries and deep wounds on their arms and legs. On Thursday morning, Awang was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Police filed a case based on Alotos statement. Awang and Aloto live in rented builder-floor houses in Sikanderpur Ghosi village. They have been working with a BPO for the past two years. On Wednesday night, around 11pm, the two bought four liquor bottles from a wine shop in DLF Phase 1. While they were walking home, they met three local youths known to them. They proposed to join Awang and Aloto for a drink. When they agreed, four more local youths joined them. According to the police, it was while drinking that an argument broke out between the local youths and the two BPO executives. The seven locals kicked and punched Awang and Aloto before thrashing them with hockey sticks and bats. With both of them collapsed, they dumped Awang outside his house while Alotos sister took him back to their house. Not only did they ask them and other people from the northeast to leave the Sikanderpur area, they also cut Awangs hair, said a close relative of the victim. Police said the FIR was lodged after a medical examination of the victims was conducted. Dalbir Singh, ACP DLF, said the police were conducting raids to nab the seven accused youths.
