remembers the Christmas Eve nights when youd just pull the covers up and youd hear a door open, followed by excited whispers and the sounds of small feet in the hallway outside the door. A mixture of oh for cryin out loud and awesome, the kids are up would wash over Fred. Then everyone would get up in the middle of the night to see what Santa Claus brought. Fast forward, (much faster than Fred likes to admit), to this morning. Fred wakes up at 5am, (his normal wake up time, even on days off, unfortunately). No sounds. Fred gets up to feed the zoo that is the Carmen household. Still, nothing from Ty. Snoring from David. Hmm. Lindsey was working and had not come by yet, so Fred went back to bed. Awake at 7. Nothing. Mrs. Fred was up and making breakfast. Okay. There is life out there. Nodded off. Back awake and out of bed at 8. Boys fast asleep. Fred paced the halls. Bumped into the doors a few times in hopes of rattling someone awake. This is nuts. Its Christmas morning! At 9am, Lindsey stopped in after working all night. Fred finally asked Mrs. Fred if he could wake the boys up. YES!! Its a go!! Down the hallway to Tys room, Fred throws open the door. Wake up! Santa came! SANTA CAME!! Mmrph. :: Maybe Ty didnt hear. A little louder this time. Dad. Im up. IM UP. One down, one to go. Fred rushed down the stairs and made such a clatter. Come on David. What the heck is the matter? (See what Fred did there?). Its TIME!! Its TIME!!!. ::Okay. Im up. Im up Dad. And then it hit Fred. He has become Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation. ::Thoughtful Pause:: Okay everybody. Into the Family Truckster! Were going to Wally World if it KILLS us!!. (Okay, were heading to Salisbury, but you get the idea). Someday, Freds kids will either tell stories of glowing memories of their Dad and his attempts at humor as they talk to future generations or theyll say, Okay. Who drew the short straw and has to pick Dad up at the Home? Christmas spirit is such a crapshoot. At any rate, MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody!! Hoping you make some awesome memories today!
