🔥 repost of comment on thread Jesse dont think its denying the progress we have made. I think it points out the work thats left to be done. There is a great saying, In all thine getting, please get and understanding. We got a whole lot of folk right now condemning and judging the folks in Ferguson and dont have a lick of understanding or even attempting to ask why. I believe just as Dr King believe that it wrong, but I got at least good enough common sense to ask why. If things are happening outside norms of everyday human behavior, there is a reason for it. This country knows it but they too damn scared to tackle it cause its hard and uncomfortable. Poverty and racism. Thats whats the immigration issue also. The folks have nothing. They have no voice and nobody who will speak up for them. Everybody talking about how Al Sharpton cause it to blow up, but what few people know is that the family had to contact him three times to take his case. He said no the first two and then mother took her last money and flew to New York to meet him fave to face. He finally said yes. She said she felt it was the only way she felt she would get any truth about what happened to her son. Up until that point the police even refused to talk to her. When a mother has to go to politician because he more trust worthy that law enforcement, thats a systemic problem. We are all not telling the same lie. People what they want to be true. Im going to be very candid with you here. It infuriates me when a non black tells me anything about how I should feel about racism in this country or my personal experience as a black person. When Im told Im playing the race card, Im stuck in the past or get over it and move on, I have a visceral reaction and to just want to punch them in the face. Because I havent gone one day in my whole life that I havent had something racist happen to me because of the color of my skin. And only got tremendously worse sense Ben and I got married. I would never judge a Mexican immigrant about his struggle, because I dont know it or understand it. But for the most part black wont even get an acknowledgement that racism exist. They say because Pres Obama was elected its all gone and have to stop talking about. We have to continue to keeping our mouths shut, hands down and be happy with progress we have made cause thats all we are getting and stop pushing for anything more. That level of repression is damaging to a collective psyche of the body and it can only be held in for so long. That my friend is why Ferguson, MO is on fire. Jereka R. Thomas-Hockaday
