reposting..because relevant. Happy Birthday Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. 1/15/29-4/4/68 When people think about the civil rights movement...some choose to act like it was a time long ago. Before cars, and electricity. It was not. The children of the civil rights movement are mostly just now grandparents. This is less than the span of one average lifetime. We were allowed to be murdered, denied the most basic of human dignities, had water hoses and dogs turned on us.....with little, to no, legal recourse. Now that weve had a black President, got some college in us, and moved out to the suburbs, some people like to act like weve made it. This couldnt be further from the truth. Is it better? Yes. Is it done? Hardly. Much more work to be done. Things were cute for a while but as we all know the tide has been turning again. Many have gotten complacent, many have lost their way, and apathy is rampant. To put it plainly.....too many of us have been showing our asses. Both figuratively and literally. Dont get comfortable. Forgetting the past means you are doomed to repeat it. Some people are relying on us to forget so they can take it back to the way it used to be, and do it right under our noses. Remain vigilant, remain militant. Demand respect. Respect yourself. Respect those around you. Keep pushin!!!! One world, one love.
