ressure continues to mount on Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua for swearing-in six members of his cabinet despite being rejected by the County Assembly. Tweet 0 inShare The Standard on Saturday yesterday learned that the Rift Valley Law Society of Kenya ( LSK) has joined the push for Mr Mbugua’s impeachment on grounds he violated the law by swearing-in the six cabinet nominees and two members of the County Public Service Board. Sources said LSK was preparing a suit to be filed alongside another by 27 Non Governmental Organisations challenging the governor’s decision to swear-in rejected nominees to the County Executive Committee. “The chair is busy preparing the suit that will be filed in court later today (yesterday) or next week on Monday,” said an advocate privy to the matter, but who did not want to be named. Death threats The move comes after a protest by 27 civil society organisations met in Nakuru town on Thursday and vowed to mobilise residents to petition the County Assembly to impeach Mbugua. This is likely to pose a serious challenge in service delivery in the county. Barely two months after taking office the governor’s leadership style has come under sharp focus. Most of his decisions have been opposed by the County Assembly and the public who have accused him of high handedness. The swearing-in of the cabinet was held at the Rift Valley Sports Club last Tuesday. The hurried event was presided over by Interim County Secretary John Motari. Mr Motari also took oath of office despite having been found unsuitable to serve in that position by the vetting team. Mbugua has remained mum over the issue and ignored media requests to comment on the matter. Speaking after the swearing-in Mbugua said all the nominees underwent a competitive process and their appointment was deserved. Meanwhile, members of County Assembly led by Speaker Susan Kihika claimed they had received death threats after declining to pass the names. They are now plotting to table a Motion to impeach the governor for violating the Constitution. Ms Kihika said they would not allow those sworn-in illegally to transact business in the chamber.
