rip larry himmel. he died of brain cancer (he told few he had it). he was 68 and a san diego tv legend. i first met larry 40 years ago when he was a radio dj and i was a free lance writer. i did a short story about him for newsweek - because he was causing a stir (shocker for larry, right?) and giving the answers to high school kids homework on the air. he called the segment bootleg homework. it was, in fact, a wonderfully creative and forward-thinking thing to do .. most educators loved it. but the right wing in san diego (and 95% of san diego fell into that category in the1970s) hated it, and hated larry, whose on-air name was the cruiser. so typical larry.. making a great point by causing a great stir. the newsweek story propelled him even more into the controversy. years later i worked with him at knsd tv... what a talent. and so young, always, at heart. rip cruiser. you caused a stir, for all those years, and made a difference.
