*s* Book Review the 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear a novel by Walter Moers A YA book that had a bunch of good press a while back. It seemed like people were talking like it might be the next Harry Potter kind of book. Sadly, no, it is not that good. I really had to work my way through this book. Its the kind of book that could be an animated series of independent chapters/stories, but Im not certain how many people would stick around to watch it. It sorta looks like he tried to use a device like Douglas Adams did in the Hitchhikers books (the Guide), but he did not do as good a job, and it got a bit annoying. It is done in the picaresque style, where his adventures are recorded in a broad style, but the stories (one of his lives) seem unrelated to each other except that it involves the main character. Its probably a good book for a tween or teen, but I think most others will find it a bit boring.
