A lovely hori - Kaisi yeh dhoom macha Aneesh Pradhan, who writes a beauty of a column on Scroll on music mentions the role that Doordarshan played.(have put it in the comments) Not everybody had tapes, records, money but mehfils were long, fulfilling, shared and accessible. Everybody I spoke with has a personal memory of hearing Begum Akhtar live.
