saw the post about the dog stolen for food in China.....dont know why it was taken down but I have to add my feelings about it. (feel free to take down if needed :) ) I have a child adopted from China. The people are NOT barbarians. Friendly......warm...loving. People are people wherever you go. Poverty is rampant in some parts of China, though actually Vietnam is more known for eating dogs (and China has a population of over 2.2 BILLION people, due to Chairman Mao encouraging citizens to have as many kids as they could in the 70s to strengthen the country. Major fail.). They eat Guinea Pigs in Guatemala...rabbit in the USA.....etc etc. I do not agree with eating dogs or cats!...I also have 3 rescue pets (1 dog, 2 cats) BUT......I respect different cultures. Stealing in China not ok & NOT condoned & actually when I was there in 2006 I saw pet cats & dogs, well cared for, in Guangzhou. We in the US eat pork - pigs are actually MORE intelligent than dogs! Bottom line is we all need to evolve....BTW China is most def NOT a 3rd world country. Pretty much classified as 2nd world at this point......though their economy is getting stronger. Their politics & the one child policy I totally disagree with! They know they are in trouble with a vast discrepancy between male & female population. In fact as far back as 2006 or earlier the Govt was encouraging parents to keep their daughters. The cities where residents are well educated etc, are not the problem. In the rural areas, many do still have the old-school belief that girls are better. A girl will grow up & get married & move away - not taking care of their parents in their old age. A boy will stay & will also most likely be more help with farming etc. They do allow 2 children in some of those areas now. This is horrific & I am all about animal rights....but putting down an entire country when WE do the same crap too.....not ok either. My 2 cents.
