say what you will about his seemingly middle of the road music...his bowler hats and striped waistcoat.....BUT....i would rather listen to him rip dixieland and goodtime jazz than listen to anything that passes for modern top 40 music today. Acker Bilk was an original...a master of vibrato and the lower register of the clarinet....wrote the 1st song by a non-american to reach the top of the billboard charts (stranger on the shore 1961), and was, for all intensive purposes a damn fine musician and citizen who married his childhood sweetheart and stayed married until the end when he passed yesterday at the age of 85. This version of one of his other BIG international (not just US...we are talking worldwide) hit Aria is a really sweet version from a a fine movie. Aria has been used SO many times in movies/tv/commercials/etc...it seems like its been around since the dawn of music. Mr. Acker Bilk....you will be missed....cheers mate...Somerset and the world mourn your passing and celebrate your spirit....
