#semperlove - Thursday, August 15: A Love Letter This comes to you with my wife’s permission and encouragement. I am always looking for ways to make her feel special, even as she does the same for me, also. It is my hope that this letter rekindles within you the deeper meaning and importance of regular expressions of love shared between friends. Blessings and peace, De Hillyer, battalion chaplain, Semper Fidelis Heath & Wellness March 29, 1986 - August 14, 2013: 10,000 Days Together Dearest Bon: Many young people today are celebrating what they call the 10K rather than doing so on their 21st birthday. Their reasoning is mature, for at age 21 they do not feel that they have lived wisely enough to celebrate anything of value. At age 27+, i.e., 10,000 days, they have. You and I celebrate our 10K today. In some ways, it seems impossible that we have moved from the altar at Pfeiffer Chapel to where we are now in retirement, but we have. We have soared, and we have crashed and burned; we have laughed together, and we have cried together; we have both achieved successes in our chosen vocations, and we have both had our hearts broken. Through all of this, you and I have remained best friends. We have been there to support one another, and we have grown into a much more mature relationship than I could have imagined. Just sitting in a room together or riding in a car with you brings me pleasure. You are thoughtful, sensitive, and go out of your way to make me feel as if I was the only man in your life. For that, I am truly grateful. I can only hope that I make you feel the same way. When we reached the milestone of 75 months, I gave you 75 memories to open, one at a time. On the following pages, you will see what I have said to you - and you to me - at least once a day for these past 10,000 days. May these pages bring a smile to your face and a warm glow to your heart. I adore you, and can only imagine what the next 10,000 will be like. I think that we have that many left to celebrate! Your loving husband, De P.S. I gave this letter to my bride with an additional five pages attached that contained 10,000 “I love you, Bon” expressions. I utilized the smallest font size possible.
