sent by email today to Anne M Stein of San Diego California, absentee slumlord extraordinaire: To Do List Let me know, sooner than later, if you are still in the area and if you still expect to be welcomed to traipse through my home before all the ordered repairs have been done to the satisfaction of Mr. Smith, the health code inspector, and me. Im not demanding fancy, Im expecting functional and healthfully sound. You are not invited to conduct any more informal inspections. Call to make an appointment rather than assuming its okay to just show up whenever you please. Replace the disfunctional refrigerator ASAP. What is the hold up? Weeks ago, as soon as you learned of the problem of the worn out gasket, this could and should have been attended to promptly. Ive become so inured by all my years of tenancy here, to being treated like a second class citizen in my own home, that it took a town health code expert to inform me Im actually *legally* entitled, among other things, to working refrigerator with no broken parts, one that keeps its contents fresh, not frozen, at the right temperature. Let the Kendricks workmen repair this ridiculous kitchen floor before winter sets in! Youve been neglectful long enough! And for petes sake dont waste the workers time and your money forcing them to use the same substandard tiles that were a problem in the first place. Since youre paying them to make a new floor, let them do it properly, or, I portend that in another year or so you will be obliged to do a similar repair yet again. Cant you understand just how foolish that would be? Dont you remember our conversation back in April, when you suggested I could choose a reasonably priced set of new tiles myself? Why did I feel then like you were lying to me? Is your word good or not? Address the horrid condition of the bathroom floor and the poorly installed toilet professionally, before yet another flood of toilet water comes pouring down into my kitchen. I understand the toilet in the other apartment has similar issues. The floor around my toilet certainly hasnt fixed itself since you last noted its condition- it is so spongy now it actually makes me wonder if the whole throne is going to fall through to the downstairs one of these days. Would you yourself endure such an unsafe and unhealthy situation in your own home?? Weather stripping the workman installed on the front and rear kitchen doors is good. Thank you for that. My son, visiting last week, noted that this is the first time in 23 years that our stairway and kitchen are not uncomfortably drafty and cold when the weather outside is chilly. The used screens Chris installed are fine, too bad it was almost the end of Mr. Quinns tenure as your manager, and after the worst part of mosquito season before you bothered about replacing them. The temporary fix just done on the kitchen rear window (a screw securing the skewed, cracked upper pane back into a shut position) is not optimal, but as the window is at least shut now, I suppose that will do for now. Just be aware that a properly functioning replacement for that faulty and broken-paned window would be the right thing to do before winter sets in and that another season of normal use the front kitchen window has worn out its working apparatus, it no longer stays open, but falls hard and heavy like a guillotine when raised. So whats really needed is two new windows. Dont bother thanking me again for expressing my concerns unless you, in good faith, address those concerns with prompt, right action.
