????! seriously, whats wrong with 689? 1) Leung Chun-ying, said Monday evening that it was unacceptable to allow his successors to be chosen in open elections, in part because doing so would risk giving poorer residents a dominant voice in politics. Isnt this a good time to ask yourself where all these poorer residents come from??? 2) He argued that containing populist pressures was an important reason for resisting the protesters’ demands for fully open elections. As a leader, are you in a position to choose if you want to be a selective listener? Is containing populist pressures a good reason for any sort of actions? 3) Leung’s blunt remarks reflect a widely held view among the Hong Kong elite that the general public cannot be trusted to govern the city well. If the NY times has understood Mr Leung correctly, my question is - excuse me? Whats democracy? 4) “and if it’s entirely a numbers game and numeric representation, then obviously you would be talking to half of the people in Hong Kong who earn less than $1,800 a month.” Why cant voices of people with less than $1800/ mo income be heard? Its some what true that there is a higher chance that the individuals are not making good decisions for themselves and thus, making less money than many others in Hong Kong. However, look at all these Mainland Chinese tourists. They are rich, but are they acting wisely? NO! How can I entrust my own future to all these rich strangers? Afterall I should have a say to my own future! 5) “If it was an entirely universal suffrage election,” Mr. Leung said, “then the sports community would not count, they would not feature on my radar screen.” You cant just go to the representatives of the section and bribe them just because they have a right to vote. You are supposed to talk to everyone and learn about the dynamic of the society so that you can roll out the policies that will help with the citys development and improve the overall harmony! 6) “So far Beijing has left it to the Hong Kong government to deal with the situation, so I think we should try our very best — and this is myself, the government and the people of Hong Kong — should try our very best to stay that way,” I am not very familiar with the Basic Law of Hong Kong. Is there a law to state that there is a particular way for Hong Kong to deal with situation or else China will take over? Why do we need to stay within the way we are now? How do we need to in favor the upper class? nytimes/2014/10/21/world/asia/leung-chun-ying-hong-kong-china-protests.html
