set up of new administrative units Trouble for Congress-Omar Abdullah alliance? New Delhi: The Congress five-year alliance with the National Conference seems to be in serious trouble, just months ahead of key national polls. The National Conference of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has threatened to snap ties if a proposal to create new administrative units in the state is not approved in a cabinet meeting on February 1. The Congress in Kashmir has reportedly expressed reservations about creating new administrative units in the cash starved state, though the Chief Minister is pushing for it. This comes at a time when a section of the Congress is believed to have advised Rahul Gandhi against continuing with the alliance. Sources say Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs meeting with senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni and Saifudin Soz yesterday in Delhi ended on a bitter note and sparked speculation that the alliance may be heading for collapse. The Congress has called its Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and two others ministers to Delhi for further consultation. Omar Abdullah has admitted to differences with the Congress but expressed hope that they will find a way out.
