several local agencies are searching near the Jacksonville Beach Pier for a missing, overdue 22-year-old male kayaker. Garth Sangree was last seen Friday at 5 p.m., according to a release from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department. He told family and friends he was going off by himself on Saturday and his vehicle is in the same place it was on 16th Avenue South and appears not to have been disturbed. The Coast Guard said Sangree was reported to be aboard a lime green and white kayak. Latest News Headlines from Action News Friends and family tell police they have not heard from Sangree since Saturday. He is described as weighing 160 lbs. and is 6-foot-2. Police alerted the Coast Guard to the situation at 2:40 p.m. Sunday. A crew from Coast Guard Station Mayport began searching at 4 p.m. Also assisting in the search is the JBPD, a Coast Guard airplane from Clearwater and a helicopter from Savannah, as well as the St. Johns County Sheriffs Office. Earlier Sunday, JBPD day shift officers spent time on ATVs searching the beach for debris or other signs of Sangree, but found none, according to Sgt. Tommy Crumley. JBPD does not have its own boat, so the night shift officers will likely patrol the area in case something washes up on shore, but the search is mostly in the hands of the Coast Guard for now, Crumley said. Anyone with any information about Sangrees whereabouts is asked to contact JBPD at 904-270-1667 or the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center at 904-564-7500 and select option zero. - See more at: actionnewsjax/news/news/local/jacksonville-beach-police-searching-missing-endang/njwyK/#sthash.jr4ueU96.dpuf actionnewsjax/news/news/local/jacksonville-beach-police-searching-missing-endang/njwyK/
