share this Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum has warned its affiliated colleges, not to collect extra fee from the students. It has already been notified to the colleges that they should collect ‘fee’ as notified by the competent authorities, with state government and university. However, after the strict instructions from state government and university, some of the colleges are collecting extra fee from students seeking admissions under CET. The disagreement between the State government and private college managements over the extra fee issue was out in the open at a press conference here on Thursday. Higher Education Minister R.V. Deshpande had meeting with M.K. Panduranga Setty, secretary of the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges’ Association and members. On July 20, the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) had written to all the colleges not to collect extra fee. Deshpande said “Government was planning to implement the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act, 2006 next year, after which things will become more transparent.” Hence, by the direction of the state government and by the order of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, it is once again instructed to the colleges coming under ambit of this university not to collect extra fee. If any of the colleges violate the directions from the university, they will invite punitive action against the erring colleges. The punitive action may also include recommencing disaffiliation of the college to state government and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
