she stared at me with a sickening smile, that Nivea girl, with her retouched armpits raised above a horde of stranded people. I was there, too. cold and hungry, balancing on three hours of sleep and a boiled egg sandwich that had me in a moral dilemma about whether or not I should consider the feelings of the man standing behind me in the queue. three hours had passed, only two taxis had come. Amidst the anxiety, the loud voice of a madman was the only thing that could be heard. He spoke to Mahlohonolo who, according to him, did not want to run away. I looked for Mahlohonolo in every direction he faced, but I did not find her. Perhaps she did run away. I wished I could. Above the line hung a metal placard that read double dose of local drama every weekday free on E and across it a giant muted plasma screen showed a group of people being saved by an s-curled pastor. How I wished he could save me, or at least the distraught woman who sat across me on her bags, waiting for a ride home like the rest of us. blessed were those with smartphones to distract them. the rest of us just had to move with the insanity that did not disappear even as we faught to get into the last taxi. Whose house is this anyway?
