since i started researching my family circle, ive learned a lot - TopicsExpress

since i started researching my family circle, ive learned a lot about wars, royalty, and general history of America, Scotland, Ireland, and England. stuff that would put me to sleep quick when i was a youngster, lol. (and sometimes still does) all jokes aside, one of the horrible things that i learned about Scotlands history is why my Highland ancestors came to America. many of my Highlanders were exiled here as part of the Highland Clearances, after the Battle of Culloden (think Braveheart). lots, and lots, and lots of Highlanders settled America, and many were Jacobite. there were and still are some who dont want Jacobites knowing they are Jacobite, knowing their homeland, knowing their culture, their ancestry, their language. if you even think you are Highland Scot, do a little research, or heck, just ask me, and i can tell you, if you are a from the Highland clans. if so, i challenge you to learn Gaelic of the Scots, because they didnt want us to know our language and some still dont. if you have Irish roots, the same applies. learn Irish Gaelic to honor your ancestors.
