since the Bible was written in other languages than english, translations from the origional languages to english are required gor us english speaking people. our english Bibles then are subjected to the people who did the translating, as they choose the different possible english words to convey the meaning of the hebrew or greek in the Bible. can this lead to different biases? does the doctrinal positions lead to different translations? the origional meaning in the Word can be misunderstood if the root words in the origional languages are not defined as they were given...... Luk 15:7 I tellG3004 you that in the sameG3779 wayG3779, there will be more joyG5479 in heavenG3772 overG1909 oneG1520 sinnerG268 who repentsG3340 thanG2228 overG1909 ninety-nineG1752b G1767 righteousG1342 personsG1342 whoG3748 needG5532 noG3756 repentanceG3341. this is luke 15:7 with the strongs concordance numbers along side the words translated from greek. the number is for the greek word used, and can quickly be looked up by its assigned number. for the serious student of the Word, getting familiar with the greek, and how it flows, will greatly enrich your study of the Word. as an example, for sure this verse from Jesus is showing us how heaven looks at sinners. the issue here is when a sinner repents. notice the word repents has the number 3340 assigned to it. here is the definition of the greek word...... G3340 μετανοέω metanoeō Thayer Definition: 1) to change one’s mind, i.e. to repent 2) to change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one’s past sins Part of Speech: verb this is what heaven is looking for, a person who will change their mind, and will come to hate their past sins. once one has been convicted of sin as Jesus said the Holy Spirit would do.... Joh 16:7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. Joh 16:8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; so it is the Holy Spirit who brings us to repent, or change our minds, and hate sin. without the Holy Spirit doing this, at best it is only the flesh attempting repentance. luke 15:7 also uses another greek word word repent, the number assigned to it is 3341..... G3341 μετάνοια metanoia Thayer Definition: 1) a change of mind, as it appears to one who repents, of a purpose he has formed or of something he has done Part of Speech: noun feminine the difference between the 2 words is the first is a verb, it is an action. the 2nd is a noun, it is a thing and is a possession. using these 2 different words to describe a person means the first one is repenting, or it is in the active sence, the 2nd is a person who has already repented, and has it as their possession. the problem though is the 99 are blind to true repentance, they have not been convicted by the Holy Spirit. this becomes self righteousness, and has a broad definition of what is sin. Jesus often spoke about how the pharisee looked on the outside, but the inside was horrible. many people look good from the outside, but it is the heart Jesus is after. in the heart arena no one can hide what is truley in their hearts from God. true repentance begins right there, in the heart.... Jer 17:5 Thus says the LORD, Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD. Jer 17:6 For he will be like a bush in the desert And will not see when prosperity comes, But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, A land of salt without inhabitant. Jer 17:7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. Jer 17:8 For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit. Jer 17:9 The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? Jer 17:10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds. perhaps Jesus is saying that heaven has joy over everyone that repents from the heart? that is the place where we change our minds, where the truth of the Word calls us. this is the place where deep calls unto deep or the Spirit of God speaks with our spirit. without this, can there be any true repentace? at best it is religion that works in the flesh, and it is not able to bring true repentance....
