so.......I have been thinking about a conversation I heard lately about entitlements and how we all should feel sorry for the children and make sure the children are taken care of....and how the elderly abuse the system and how much they are costing the taxpayers.......I would like to address that... First of all, the elderly have paid into the system their entire lives and Medicare is not an entitlement but a benefit that they have paid into thru their taxes. Those same elderly, (your grandparents) have to suffer cuts to their benefits and see increases in their costs while they are living on a limited budget. They are not able to just get a job due to the limitations from their age. Second, even, after they have paid into it, they still have their 20% copays they have to meet unless they are paying for supplemental insurance policies. Third, when you live in pain every single day, surgeries to eliminate that pain do not seem unnecessary but extremely important to their quality of life. Fourth, many of the younger generation seem to have no problem with getting pregnant (even though we all know how babies are made and what we can do to prevent that....i.e. birth control) and using the taxpayers money to fund such expenses. Fifth, some in the same generation of parents seem to have no problem letting the taxpayers pay for free breakfast, free lunches, free preschool, free afterschool care, free meals on weekends, and during summer breaks, etc, etc, etc....all at the taxpayers expense. And, lastly, some in this same generation also believes it is okay for the taxpayers to fund illegals (along with their children) and refugees all the benefits of citizenship, including totally free medical care, dental care, that they never have paid into and have no copays. There, I needed to say this.......let the discussion begin.....keep it respectful please.
