so about a year ago at a show in pittsburgh i was introduced to this music scene thats happening over there that i was totally unfamiliar with. there were 3 local-ish bands on the bill & they all really blew me away. not only was their music just great rock n roll, & not only were their performances seriously high energy, high volume & fun as hell, but the people themselves were all really solid human beings. they were all really friendly & welcoming & as excited to see the other bands on the bill as they were to be playing themselves. they were funny & completely without pretense & making music because of how fun it can be when you let it. anyway - i was telling someone about this last night & trying to explain the impact it had on me: a guy who had been fruitlessly searching for that combination of bands that were 1) making great loud rock n roll, & 2) genuinely supportive & enthusiastic about each others music. the guy i was explaining it to is a part of that scene &, as a result, i didnt think he was understanding just how blown away i was when i had met all of these people. i was trying to think of a metaphor that could convey the huge effect it had on me when i thought of this video. specifically the ending, you know? when the bee girl finds all the bee people - when she finds all the weirdos out in the field just having a blast together. this video as a metaphor for that discovery is too perfect considering that im talking about a bunch of big, bearded, long-haired, beer-drinking, weed-smoking, dirty, filthy metalheads, & now im imagining all of them in black panty hose & bee costumes. specifically dave wheeler. if you know him, just sit there for a minute & imagine dave in one of these costumes. https://youtube/watch?v=SNny8w18QOs
