so i took a skim through the Game Awards 2014 shows 3-hour broadcast. just some thoughts (disclaimer: im not a huge gamer by any means): - game announcements / trailers / announcements seem out of place in an awards show - it just seems like fillder. also less speeches by stuffy CEOs would be nice. - kind of on the fence about Fighter X being there as a throw-to-commercial DJ. i mean obviously the fact that he was asked to be in that role is a huge deal and im glad the powers that be actually went there, but i also wish the execution could have been better (not him btw, he did fine, i mean things like being louder in the mix). if it were up to me, next time i would put such a chip artist not at the side podium, but rather, offstage in a special DJ booth with some visuals + lights behind him. - it was nice to see Theremin Heros performance in a setting where his audience is about as friendly as its ever gonna get. Seeing him at both superbyte and at this show seems like an appropriate comeuppance for any discouragement from the whole X-factor thing. He seemed to really enjoy the opportunity to perform, which is great. - glad to see Shovel Knight win the indie game of the year award. richly deserved! Overall, barring some minor inevitable technical / logistical slipups that are certain to occur for first shows of this type, i was actually quite impressed by the production values and design. It approached the gaming industry/community with an appropriate level of reverence and respect without being too, you know, bro-ey. i give it a solid B.
